B2825. DIVOS JULIUS CAESAR, by OCTAVIAN, ca. 38 BC. AE sestertius?, AE30, 24 gm, uncertain Italian mint, RPC 621. DIVI F, bare head of Augustus r., star before/DIVOS IVLIVS within laurel wreath. VF+. An excellent and often under-appreciated large portrait of Octavian in bronze.



B2826. AUGUSTUS, 27 BC-14 AD. AR Denarius struck by the moneyer L. Vinicius L. f. 16 BC, RSC 544. Anepigraphic obverse with bare head of Augustus r./Statue of Augustus in quadriga on triumphal arch flanked by two porticos each surmounted by an archer. EF. Excellent example. Fine old cabinet toning. This arch was erected to Augustus outside the city of Rome near the Porta Flaminia. Rare.

B2828. HADRIAN, 117-138. Denarius, HRIC 47/12. /Hadrian on platform with Liberalitas and deputy distributing coins to a citizen. EF. Scarce. Refers to the third donative, ca. 121 AD. Nice example with much detail on the reverse.



B2829. CARACALLA, 196-217. Denarius, HRIC 38. /LAETITIA TEMPORVM, a ship with the sail raised, unloading a cargo of exotic animals (seven different animals around the ship including an ostrich to the l.), with four carts or quadrigae in the background (or possibly gladiators dispatching animals). ca. 204 AD. EF. Refers to the delivery of exotic beasts for the arena for the Saecular Games. Very Rare. An excellent example with much sharper reverse than usual.
