Every detail from his moveable bracelets to his horns and individual claw-like finger and toe nails rendered in wonderful life-like detail. 12.5 x 15 x 19 inches. 29 lbs. Choice intact condition. B3542. A MUSEUM QUALITY LARGE CHINESE STONE CARVING, ca. 19th or early 20th century. Finely carved variegated red stone scene with an adult water buffalo and three young riden by three little Chinese boys one of whom plays a flute. 10.5 x 12 x 16 inches. 45 lbs. A wonderful composition rendered with the utmost delicacy showing a great tenderness between the large water buffalo and the young and the gentle trust existing between the massive beasts and the tiny boys. Signed. A masterpiece of Chinese stone carving and worthy of the finest collection. On custom wood stand.



B3543. A LARGE AND FINE CHINESE PORCELAIN GODDESS, ca. early 20th century. The large polychrome goddess standing with a dragon and goldfish at her feet, a beautiful smile of compassion on her lovely face, her hand raised in a blessing. 17 x 38.5 inches. In choice intact condition with all the fragile protruberances intact save one which has a minute flake missing. Needs washing as it has some soot from years in a temple. B3545. A FINELY CARVED JAPANESE IVORY. 19th century. Representing a Japanese folk tale with the hero beseiged by 9 monkeys. 7 inches. Several small losses to protruding details. Wonderful style and composition. Old ivory patina. Signed on the base. Provenance: Ex. Robert Lang collection. Robert Lang of Rye, NY (1909-1997) was born one hundred years after Abraham Lincoln. He made a fortune on Wall Street. He spent it on his mansion in Rye, New York and on his vast collection of hundreds of thousands of items which he purchased over a 40 year period ranging from African art to Asian art, and candlesticks to vintage cars. Recently his eclectic estate was dispersed. A valuable collection of antique vehicles was given to the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine, an institution of which he had been a founding member. The rest of his collection was sold in a series of two and three day auctions in New England. Some highlights include a copy of the declaration of Independence which he had owned sold for $415,000, an African bronze brought over $225,000, and an African Congo fetish brought over $200,000! The stone pallet in the form of a lotus blossom with carved detail both sides, the top with chambers to hold cosmetics, a diety in the fifth. 6.2 inches diameter. A couple of small chips to rim, otherwise intact and very rare.

The plaque with a molded goddess seated with one leg drawn up on a throne wearing long diaphanous gown and holding a long scepter and other uncertain attribute. 4.3 inches. Face worn but otherwise excellent composition and nice detail. Quite rare.

Forearms and headdress lost but otherwise an excellent detailed and intact piece of excellent style. Free standing but needs a supporting base.

The bowl with brown and green fishes on a chartreuse ground, a band of incised sgraffiato curlicue designs under brown glaze around the rim. 3.3 x 8 inches.
