4252. A RARE ARCHAIC GREEK KOUROS, ca. 7th-6th century BC. The terracotta male figure standing nude with left arm across his abdomen, his long hair in curls across his head and falling over his shoulders. 3 x 4 inches. Lower part missing. Very rare and with a wonderful archaic smile. On custom stand.



4253. A FINE CANOSAN POLYCHROME HORSE, ca. 3rd century BC. The horse with bridle and most of the the original white, blue, pink and burgundy pigment. 7 x 9.5 inches. Professional repair to legs. Extremely rare. See a couple of similar examples in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis sale.



4254. A FINE GREEK TERRACOTTA FIGURINE. Ptolemaic, ca. 2nd-1st century BC. The terracotta with Harpocrates/Attis perched sidesaddle on the back of a large goose and wearing a high Asiatic cap with his finger to his mouth, and holding a cornucopia. 6.7 inches. An excellent and accomplished composition. Intact and rare. On custom stand.



4255. A GREEK TERRACOTTA FEMALE PROTOME, late 5th-early 4th century BC. Center-parted hair, large disk earrings with pyramidal pendants, her himation going over her head and diagonally across her torso, her left hand pulling the drapery to the side, her right hand holding an uncertain object probably a dove, including a projecting flange in back with a perforation for suspension. 3.5 x 5 inches. Professional repair. For a very similar example see Christie's 12/9/99 lot 447 estimated at $3000-$5000.

4266. A RARE GREEK BLACK GLAZED SITULA, ca. 4th century BC. The large bowl or bucket modeled after a bronze prototype with molded faux handles on the sides. 6 x 9 inches. Large shard and pedestal base reattached. Hard fired with a nice ring to it. Very rare and fine piece.

The large amphora with elegant piriform body and twin handles rising to everted rim, the body with painted palmettes and laurel band. 10 x 14 inches. One handle reattached, chips around rim of ring base. Very rare large piece from a scarce culture.

Neat repair to handle, otherwise intact and in excellent condition. An excellent example of a rare and prized type with two bug-eyed appendages atop the handle.



4291. A FINE DAUNIAN GREEK ASKOS, ca. 3rd century BC. The buff-ware pitcher in the general form of a duck with erect tail and spout for the head, a wide looped strap handle on the top, the surface covered with nicely rendered geometric designs in slate blue and red. 7 x 9.25 inches. A choice intact example of a rare and desirable type.



4292. A LARGE DAUNIAN GREEK OLLA, ca. 3rd century BC. The buff-ware krater with two heavy side handles and funnel rim, designs in brown and red on the body. 8.5 x 14.5 inches. Intact with some fading to paint. Rare.

4296. A MEGARIAN GREEK BOWL, 3rd - 1st century BC. This type of ceramic was the precursor of the "Terra Sigillata". They were produced in Greece and Asia Minor. This bowl shows different flower decors and four men with a bulls head (Minotaur?). Intact, 8 x 14 cm. Reference: Terra Sigillata, Ausstellungskatalog München.



4297. A FINE EARLY HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP, ca. 3rd century BC. The buffware lamp with deep oil chamber on ring base with perforated side lug and elongate spout. 3.6 inches. Intact. Excellent example. Rare early Greek oil lamp.







4299. A FINE HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP, ca. 3rd-1st century BC. The buffware lamp with a nicely molded amphora on the elongated spout, rosette maker's mark on bottom. 3.2 inches. Intact. Beautiful little example.



4300. AN HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP, ca. 3rd-1st century BC. The grayware lamp with leaf handle, twin side knobs and elongated spout, the body covered with molded designs. 5 inches. Spout reattached.



4302. A RARE GRAECO-ROMAN TERRACOTTA OIL LAMP, ca. 1st century BC/AD. The redware lamp with ring handle and elongate spout, the discus with a large facing head. 4.8 inches. Repair to handle. Can't find this type in either Anawati or Qedem. Rare thus.



4303. GREEK BRONZE STRIGIL, 3rd-1st BC. Strigili were used in ancient times as a hygiene object especially by atheletes. After the games the Greek atheletes rubbed their skin with oil and after this the oil and the dirt was scraped off with a Strigil. Such scenes can be found on red figure vases. This Strigil is made of bronze and bears a manufacturer or a owner stamp ASIROL in retrograde inside the handle. Repaired with some patching. Extremly rare item of the daily life. Reference: Limesmuseum Aalen, Bronzen aus Baden-Würtemberg.



4304. A GREEK LEAD SEAL, ca. 3rd-1st century BC. 17 mm, 6.52 gm. Hd. r./Scallop shell. Much sharper than the usual ancient lead seal. Very rare.
