6379. AN IMPORTANT LARGE EARLY CHRISTIAN STAMP SEAL, Byzantine Period, c. 5th-7th century AD. The large fish shaped bronze stamp formed to stamp the letters QHEOU (Theou = belonging to God), ring handle on the back. The fish of course is also an early Christian symbol since ichthys in Greek is an acronym for Jesus Christ, God's son, saviour. 3.5 inches. Choice example and condition of a very rare early Christian artifact. This seal was most likely used in the early church. $7500 estimate.
