7872. HELLENISTIC GREEK GOLD LION EARRING, c. late 4th-3rd century BC. The lion's head comprising the terminal of a twisted gold hoop about 2.4 cm wide, the collar with beaded wire filigree work, the body formed by gold tubes spiraled together, tapering to a point just before the lion's mouth. Weight: 4.35 gm. High-carat gold. Lacking its mate (we do have another closely similar one available - lot 6440), but of fine style, intact and unrestored. $4750 estimate.
