The large heavy fibula with catch plate tail looped back the length of the body and ornamented with a large knob, the original spring and pin a continuation of the body. 3.6". The bronze plaque depicting a temple alcove with peaked top within which the busts of Isis and Serapis, Anubis? seated to the right with uraeus headdress, a bird flying above and a serpent crawling below. 1.4 x 1.7 inches. 8689. AN EXCEPTIONAL GREEK BRONZE BELL, ca. 5th-3rd century BC. The large bell of subconical form with heavy integral loop. 2.6 x 3.9 inches. Small line one side. Even though the iron clapper is lost, tapping the bell still produces a clear tone, a sound that was certainly heard also by some unknown ancient Greek. An unusually large and well preserved example. $1250 estimate.
