9754. A RARE BYZANTINE LAMP WITH INSCRIPTION, ca. 5th-8th century AD. The lamp with 7 wick holes and 2 lines of Greek inscription probably reading EULOGIA THC QEOTOKOU EPIGRAMA IWANNOU. Anawati erroneously translates this as 'Eulogia of our brother Theotokos, inscription of John' however Theotokos is properly translated as 'mother of God'. 3.5". 9769. AN IMPORTANT WELL PRESERVED MEDIEVAL CHILD'S SHOE, found in the river Mosel near Trier. Because of the style the shoe might be attributed to the 15th century, but the find place also produced Frankish artifacts so an earlier attribution is just as possible. 16 cm, intact. An excessively rare complete medieval shoe in a wonderful state of preservation. $9500 estimate.
