The exact fuction of these rare artifacts is uncertain. They would have sat stably with the broad part down, however since there are soot deposits only on the interior of the broad end, one might assume they were lamps or torchieres designed to be slipped over support poles with the oil and wick contained in the broad concave bowl which has a central chamber with small wick? hole with soot deposits around it.
