THE TRIBUTE PENNY OF THE BIBLE IN GOLD

8882. ROMAN EMPIRE, TIBERIUS, 14-37 AD. Gold aureus, 20 mm, 7.64 gm. RIC I 25, HRIC 6a. Obverse: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS; Laureate head of the emperor Tiberius facing right. Reverse: PONTIF MAXIM, His mother Livia (as Pax) seated right on a throne holding long royal scepter in right hand and olive branch in left. Good VF with complete legends and all devices clear, and considerably better than the photo. This is the same Tribute Penny coin type mentioned in the Bible but stuck in gold as the much rarer and more valuable aureus rather than the usual silver denarius.
