The oval loop terminating in stylized animal heads, the eyes and each end with collar set cabochon garnets, with a band of scrolling along the length, the hooked tongue with stylized beak, both elements hinged to the rectangular plate, each corner set with cabochon garnets, a large collar-set oval glass in the center, surrounded by scrolling and spiraling. 4.5 inches. B3091. A CHOICE BYZANTINE BONE TRIPTYCH, ca. 10th-14th century. The central panel with Christ blessing the emperor, two angels on the side panels. When closed the front panels display two female saints. 1.75 x 3.75 inches. Breaks to hinges, otherwise choice condition with wonderful carving. Extremely rare and desirable.
B3092. A BYZANTINE UNOPENED BRONZE AND SILVER RELIQUARY CROSS, ca. 8th-12th century AD. The reliquary with figure of Christ on the cross on one side, the Virgin holding the Christ child flanked by busts of Saints on the other. 1.9 inches. Of very unusual box-like construction, with one side forming a flat lid, the sides permanently secured by two silver rivets at top and bottom. Reliquaries such as this were made to carry religious relics, such as splinters of the true cross etc. This possibly with relic still within. Very rare type.
