7436. LARGE MAMLUK STYLE ENAMELED, CUT AND GILT GLASS PANEL, Syria, c. 1300's or later. See 'Masterpieces of Glass', p. 80-81 for the type. The panel with an intricate border of interwoven designs laboriously cut into the glass, the low areas all filled with faded gold, large turquoise blue Islamic inscription beautifully enameled in the central panel, the inscription again hand cut into the glass, the low areas filled with faded gold. 7.25 inches circumference, 6 inches in height. One corner shard loose (propped slightly askew in image). Even in its current condition a very important piece of ancient glass. Enameled and gilt Mamluk glass is among the rarest and most sought after of ancient glasses.
