9256. EXPRESSIVE COLIMA DOG VESSEL, West Mexico, 200 BC - 300 AD. In the form of a large dog sitting back on its haunches with an inquisitive countenance, its tail curled around its hindquarters. Made as a vessel with a flaring spout on top of the head. 6 x 11 x 12 inches. An excellent example, completely intact with no repair or restoration, the whole with a rich red finely burnished surface. Provenance: Acquired at Harmer Rooke Galleries in the 1990's. Accompanied by 1966 certificate of authenticity from Marjorie Neikrug, member of the American Society of Appraisers.
