FROM THE ERA OF CHARLEMAGNE 7564. A FRANKISH PARCEL GILT EQUINE BREASTPLATE. France, c. 800 AD. The equine breastplate of bronze, ornamented with beautiful weave pattern filagree around the edges, the face plated with gold, a fine silver rosette at the center. Two heavy loops for leather harness straps and eleven small loops for tassels around the lower perimeter. Height 5.5 inches. All original with no repair or restoration. A very rare and elegant piece that would have ornamented the breast of a noble's or military leader's mount.
