At the base the finely modeled head of a lady or goddess with laurel leaf wreath. Above on a broad strap handle, the molded figure of
an elegant lady wearing hat and cloak. Considerable white slip remaining with slight traces of pink and blue. Intact and very rare this type of vessel was made for the tomb without an enclosed bottom and not intended for daily use. Height: 14.2".

On side A a lady perhaps a Maenad
makes an offering to a seated male figure with thrysos, probably Dionysos. Behind a nude youth leans on his staff
holding another offering. On side B three cloaked youths, two with staffs, converse. On the neck large vines done in
black figure technique, a wave pattern on the wide rim top. Double column handles. Likely the work of the Snub-
Nose painter. See Trendall, Red Figure Vases of South Italy, 162-3 for very similar scenes. Intact & rare & in
choice condition. Thin layer of calcified soil in bottom of interior. 16.7x18.4".

#A084a: An Exceptional Large Gnathian Volute Krater With Stand, ca. 4th century BC.
The large black glazed krater with molded Gorgon heads on the volutes, four molded duck heads on the shoulder. Decorated with delicate vine in added white on the body and Greek key device on base. Tongue pattern on rim. The base with an impressed floral pattern. Dimensions: 13"x29". Reassembled from shards. A similar example with professional restoration was offered by Sotheby's at $30,000-$50,000.

#A080a: An Attic Black Figure Band Skyphos With Erotic Scenes, ca. 6th-5th century BC.
The large two handled cup painted both sides with scenes of youths fondling boys. Seated male figures and sphinxes flanking them. Roosters (courting gifts) in added white covering the erotic portion of both scenes. Interestingly the roosters, one of which has faded or been removed, may have been added to tone down the erotic content. A very rare depiction of Greek life in choice, intact condition. Minor soil deposits. Width: 11".
