Beautifully carved gray-green shist scene of the Buddha holding out his begging bowl to a child
surrounded by saints & boddhisatvas. Gray-green shist. Width: 15". Free standing. The Gandharan school of Graeco-Buddhist art
flourished from the late 1st to 5th century in ancient Gandhara, near the present border of Afganistan and Pakistan where Greeks from Alexander the Greats army had settled.
Such Greek artistic style combined with Buddhist iconograpy is unique in art history.
