FROM CAESARS PALACE CASINO

12971. MONUMENTAL STATUE OF MICHELANGELO'S DAVID. 20th century. Original fine Carrara marble sculpture carved from a single piece of stone in Italy by Italian artisans. The marble from the same quarry as Michelangelo's original. Carved after the original with beautiful masterful detail. It took a year to find a suitable piece of marble, and two years to sculpt, and cost over one million dollars to have it made. In excellent original condition with no repair or restoration. Dimensions 17 feet in height. Comes packaged in custom shipping crate. Provenance: Ex Caesars Palace Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Caesars Entertainment, the parent company of Caesars Atlantic City, has been hard hit by the slump in Atlantic City casino revenues over the last several years. As a result they are in the process of reducing and closing at least some of their holdings there which is the reason these very impressive Italian sculptures have become available for a fraction of what they originally cost.

Michelangelo's original statue of David, produced in the Rennaisance in 1501-1504, of which this is an exact copy, is along with the Venus d'Milo, one of the two most famous sculptures ever produced.
