       All the Chinese pieces on this page come with good provenance and have been vetted for authenticity by at least two experts in the field and their authenticity is guaranteed for as long as you own them. Unless otherwise noted they are all from established American collections having been originally acquired from reputable Oriental Art Dealers in New York City or California in the 1980's or early 1990's or before. All Asian art in our inventory was in US collections legally prior to the 2009 Memorandum Of Understanding with China that restricts import of Chinese antiquities. Many of the pieces on this page are published in "Oriental Antiques & Art, An Identification and Price Guide, 2nd Edition" by Mark Moran & Sandra Andacht as noted in the descriptions.

13068. HAN DYNASTY MIRROR. China, 207 BC - 220 AD. 6 inches in diameter, ~0.5 inches thick , 2.4 lbs. Of heavy bronze alloy fabric. Rear surface decorated with 4 animals molded in high relief. Iron deposits on animals, with light green deposits on mirrored surface. Most of the mirroring remaining which is rare. The metal in excellent condition with no repair or restoration. Mirrored side.

9130. MASTERFUL IVORY FIGURE OF A MAN WITH BIRDCAGE AND FAN, Japan, Meiji Period, late 19th century. The superbly rendered and polychromed figure of a traditional ornate yukata clad man with chonmage hairstyle holding a fan and a birdcage with a door that opens to reveal a tiny songbird inside. 12.75 inches in height. Artist's signature carved on the bottom of one sandal. Rendered in the finest style from the face which is filled with an expression of serene joy to the minute carefully incised details which hold the polychrome on his garments. A masterwork of Japanese Meiji Period art. Free standing on an original curled rosewood base. Choice condition with no problems whatsoever.

9122. PUBLISHED RARE TAOIST STONE CEREMONIAL BLADE. Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644, possibly earlier. The blade carved with side ridges and Tao Tieh mask on both sides, a mounting hole drilled through the neck. 2.5 x 9.5 inches. Carved of purple gray stone possibly serpentine. 11415. SONG / YUAN JUNYAO BOWL, c. 960 - 1368 AD. A finely glazed medium-sized, purple-splashed junyao bowl, from the Song to Yuan Dynasty era. Diameter is about 6 inches, height is 3 inches. Very good to excellent condition. Well potted with perfectly rounded sides and slightly inverted rim. Covered with a clear-crackled, grayish blue glaze that fades to a mushroom color around the rim, with purple splashes on the interior. Well-formed, unglazed foot. Provenance: The collection of the well-known Chinese jade connoisseur Eric Hoffman, who purchased this from a Chinese family in California more than 20 years ago. Glaze detail. Bottom. Inverted view. 11095. TONG DYNASTY BACTRIAN CAMEL, China, Tong (Tang) Dynasty, 618-970 AD. The sizable two humped Bactrian camel standing proudly with raised head, its mouth opened in the act of bellowing. It wears a riding blanket over its humps rendered in lighter pinkish grey pigment, the body of the camel covered with brownish pigment of which a considerable amount remains. Dimensions 10 inches wide x 13 inches in height. Intact and original with some loss to the over color. Provenance: The Princeton Collection. Acquired in the 1990's from a major US antiquities dealer.

6938. PUBLISHED IMPORTANT GREY POTTERY FIGURE OF A HORSE. Han Dynasty, 207 BC - 220 AD. The massive horse powerfully modeled with erect posture. The rounded neck with hogged mane reaching up between the alert ears. The head strongly detailed with flared nostrils and open mouth revealing the teeth. 25x30", 40 lbs. Remains of white slip under ancient soil. Separately made head inserts into body. Han tomb figures of large size have been found in human figures, chicken, pigs and dogs but horses are very rare. A similar figure 37" high was sold by Sotheby's March '97 for $48,300. Both these pottery horses can be compared to an even larger bronze horse discovered in tomb #2 at Hejiashan, Jinyang in Sichuan.
