9930. 'TOO CUTE', AN ENDEARING COLIMA PUPPY DOG. Mexico, ca. 200 AD. The charming plump puppy standing in an alert pose with ears pricked up, his erect tail doubling as a spout. The whole with a rich, finely burnished reddish black surface with incised details. 5.25 x 8 inches. A choice intact piece in excellent condition with no repair or restoration. An especially cute and charming example. Provenance: Acquired at Harmer Rooke Galleries in the 1990's.

This piece was featured on an Animal Planet cable program episode entitled 'Too Cute' about Chihuahua dogs. The Colima Dogs, or Techichi dogs, were the ancestors of Chihuahuas.
