9802. SASANIAN DOUBLE CHAMBERED OFFERING VESSEL WITH RAM'S HEAD, c. 3rd-6th century AD. With twin bowls flanking a ram's head, socket for handle behind, The whole with thick turquoise green glaze. 5 inches. Very rare.

9182. EARLY PERSIAN BOWL, c. 12th-13th century AD. The bowl with brown and green fishes on a chartreuse ground, a band of incised sgraffiato curlicue designs under brown glaze around the rim. 3.3 x 8 inches. Repaired from shards with small plaster fills.

Provenance: Ex. Christie's with Christie's tag on bottom. Scarce.

7473. EARLY PERSIAN GLAZED PORCELAIN SGRAFFITO AMPHORISKOS, c. Song Dynasty period 960-1259 (Porcelain manufacture was learned from Chinese artisans). The small two handled vessel with pale celadon-like glaze over porcelain with embossed floral pendants. 2.5 inches. Rare early Persian porcelain vessel.

9800. EARLY PERSIAN GLAZED AMPHORA, c. 10th-12th century AD. The amphora with tall neck and twin handles, the body covered with thick glaze now with much subdued peacock iridescence. 10.25 inches. Age crack around base. Rare large early Islamic piece.

9910. SELJUK FIGURAL TERRA COTTA ROOF TILE ANTEFIX, 12th-14th century AD. The tile ending in the finely modeled face of a mythical being. 5.25 inches diameter. Rear top with breaks. Rare. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner from a large Mid Western collection in the 1990's, previously from a West Coast dealer in Asian art.

ANCIENT ISLAMIC GLASS

7436. RARE LARGE MAMLUK ENAMELED, CUT AND GILT GLASS PANEL, Syria, c. 1300's or later. See 'Masterpieces of Glass', p. 80-81 for the type. The panel with an intricate border of interwoven designs laboriously cut into the glass, the low areas all filled with faded gold, large turquoise blue Islamic inscription beautifully enameled in the central panel, the inscription again hand cut into the glass, the low areas filled with faded gold. 7.25 inches circumference, 6 inches in height. One corner shard loose (propped slightly askew in image). Even in its current condition an important piece of ancient glass. Enameled and gilt Mamluk glass is among the rarest and most sought after of ancient glasses. Even the wonderful examples in the reference cited do not have the intricate cut design underlying the enamels. Enlarged front view. Enlarged back view. Rare.

8403. YELLOW SAFFRON CROCUS, A painting from the collection of H.H. The Maharaja of Jaipur. India, Jaipur, c. 1910. Superbly done gesso painting of a yellow saffron crocus on very finely laid artist's paper. 4.5 x 6". A true masterwork rendered with a single hair brush. Must be seen under magnification to be appreciated.

Provenance: Acquired at an upscale estate sale in New Jersey in the 1990's by the current owner. There were two paintings in this collection from the same hand, one with the official seal of the Maharaja of Jaipur signed and dated 1910. This one unfortunately does not carry his seal but is clearly by the hand of the same artist.

9996. MUGHAL STYLE EROTIC MINIATURE, c. 19th century. Finely rendered painting in gouache on paper with six different animals comprised of 31 copulating figures, fine calligraphic script in black and red on verso. This zoomorphic type of erotic art was believed to increase the owner's sexual potency. 8 x 13 inches. Much better than photo which is out of focus.
