9978. TAIRONA CEREMONIAL STONE LADLE, ca. 800-1500 AD. The graceful stone ladle with a squatting figure carved in relief on the exterior of the bowl. 7.5 inches. Two edge flakes reattached otherwise in excellent condition. Very rare as such artifacts took an enormous amount of time to carve out of the solid stone - much more labor intensive than pottery items. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from a major New York City antiquities dealer in the 1990's. $2500.
9964. LARGE TAIRONA SHAMANIC HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRID VESSEL, ca. 800-1500 AD. The large animal form vessel with spout in the form of a human head. 12 x 13 inches. Hind leg and tail section repaired. Human-animal hybrids are portrayals of Shamanic psychedelic experiences. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from an established US antiquities dealer in the 1990's. The boat-shaped vessel with central spout and ring base, one upturned end in the form of an animal head, the other its tail which opens into a small pouring spout. 7 x 8.5 inches. Professionally repaired from several large shards. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from an established US antiquities dealer in the 1990's.
