BEAUTIFUL NEOCLASSICAL STYLE

9993. MASSIVE VICTORIAN NEPTUNE FOUNTAIN, c. late 19th century. Of cast iron, the fountain features Poseidon/Neptune holding a large fish whose mouth is the spout from which water pours to a grated basin below. Designed to back against a wall the fountain is made in three sections including a removable grate for cleaning. Probably from an English estate or manor house garden. Dimensions 35 wide x 60 high x 24 inches deep. Weight is a couple hundred pounds. One of a kind, rarely does one see cast iron of this quality and detail. The top photo shows the original condition of some 20 years ago. It has now acquired a light iron oxide patina as shown in the photo below. The patina can be easily removed to restore the piece to the original condition pictured if so desired as there is no damage to the underlying metal. Other than the patina, the condition is excellent and all original with no repair, damage or restoration. Provenance: An extensive North Eastern collection. Acquired by the current owner at a New Jersey estate auction in the 1980's.

$6500.
